10 Minute Sand Timer for Reading, Quizzes and Focus

Ten Minutes of Sand•Reading & Quiz Rounds•Visual + Digital Time•Distraction-Free Fullscreen

A Ten-Minute Glass for Short, Focused Work

Ten minutes is a popular block for silent reading, warm-up exercises, quiz rounds and quick writing tasks. A tall pour of sand gives the whole block a sense of progress: the top bulb empties at a steady pace, so you can tell at a glance whether you are halfway or nearly finished.

Students use it to break revision into bite-sized chunks; coaches use it for drills; anyone procrastinating can use it as a "just ten minutes" starter. When the final grain drops, a gentle chime tells you to stop or keep going with another flip.

How to Use the 10 Minute Sand Timer

1

The hourglass is already loaded with 10 minutes of sand — or pick another preset or type your own time in m:ss.

2

Press Start (or the Spacebar) and the grains begin pouring through the narrow neck.

3

Watch the top bulb empty and the pile in the bottom bulb grow — no clock-reading needed.

4

A chime plays when the last grain lands. Press Reset (R) to flip the glass and go again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 10 minute timer good for beating procrastination?

Yes. Committing to just ten minutes lowers the barrier to starting. Many people find that once the sand is flowing they keep going well beyond the first flip.

Can the hourglass run while I use other tabs?

Yes. The countdown is based on the real clock, so it stays accurate in the background and the chime still plays when time is up.

Is the virtual hourglass more accurate than a real one?

Yes. Physical sand glasses drift with humidity and grain size. The TimerBox hourglass is driven by the system clock, so it finishes on the exact second even if you switch tabs.

Which keyboard shortcuts work on the sand timer?

Space starts or pauses, R resets, F opens fullscreen and M mutes or unmutes the finishing chime.
